Used Car Req - Cheap but classy

Hiya all. Just started working for myself self employed.
I have had to give back my company car which was a Golf.
I need to replace it with something that is quite reasonable, good reliability (I won't be using it too much - maybe 10k per year) that gives a statement to my clients.
Any ideas please - cheaper the better!!

Cheap (relatively) and classy!
Does it matter what kind of car it is, or do you just want something that looks good? Might be worth looking at things like an old S-Class or a high spec older 5 series if you're not fussed about size or power.

i think completely differently to you guys so just throwing open another suggestion
any old 7 series, s class, ls400s etc I just see as an old banger and there is no class or anything about them in my opinion they are bought by people that want a cheap car
ok a 15 year old minty mint 750il chauffeur driven with 30k on the clock and the number plate A1 may be different.
i'd say for 2k you should just go for a reliable car, maybe more would get you something 'respectable' like an x type or saab 93 etc?

I would think it would depend on the business and the nature of the clients.
IMHO, old Lexus has no class. It's a good car, but I wouldn't think "that guy is doing well" to look at one. If it seemed like an unnecessary attempt to be classy, I might wonder about other financial decisions.
I think the most important thing is that the car is clean, quiet, tidy and undamaged in a 'normal' colour.

Shame really, that black interior looks rather smart.
A Jaguar X300 3.2 would fit the bill perfectly and you could get a very nice one for £2-2.5k. If you needed to visit me relating to business and you turned up in one of those I'd just think you were very wise.
