Reducing Brake Dust

Hi guys. Any ideas or tips/products on reducing brake dust on alloys? I clean my wheels with Zymol wheel cleaner/brush etc and they look terrific but it dont take long for the dreaded dust to take hold. I dont brake harshly - in fact im very good on braking but although i dont expect wheels to stay clean for long, just wondered if you guys have done/used anything that has made a dramatic difference?

Hi Nick,

Guess you can't reduce it per se. Unless you don't brake as much.

One method is to wax the wheels. This tends to stop the brake dust sticking as much. Then a dab of soap and water and you're good to go.

Other than that theres not much you can do.

EBC pads seem to indicate that they produce less dust, but I've heard they aren't great, maybe you should try some new/different pads.

Also, someone once said to me that long gentle braking generates more dust than short aggressive braking....but I'm not so sure.

I have used the EBC Greenstuff and they do dramatically reduce the amount of dust. I could tell no difference between them and OEM when it comes to braking abaility and brake fade, so if you are just looking for cleaner wheels I would say they work perfectly.

I agree waxing is the way to go. You get just as much dust but it takes a fraction of the time to clean them.
