3R Starter Motor

Hi,
Does anyone happen to know the part number for a 3R starter motor. Is it correct that it is from an ST220 Mondeo ?

It looks a bit of a pain to get to in the Noble engine bay. Are these a relatively straight forward job to change ?

As Andy commented on the earlier thread you need to make sure that the solenoid of the replacement s/m is exactly the same length as the one coming off the car. You do not want the terminals to be shorting out on the fuel tank
Replacing the starter motor is a bit of a fiddle, but can be done without having to remove anything else off the car.

Is it best to tackle it from above or can you get in under the header tank through the wheel arch ?

Hi James - it is possible to replace without taking out the wheel arch liner, but as it's so easy take the liner off, you might as well. It gives a bit more access.
Before you go this route have you (or the AA man)checked the alternator is actually charging OK?

Thanks for that, I have ordered one as well. Now just to get the old one off !

RobP - Alternator does seem to be charging and the car has been on charge for 24 hrs and still not even an attempt to turn over when trying to start it. So i'm guessing the starter motor is the culprit.

It's only held on by two bolts and comes out from the bottom of the car

Is going in from underneath the easiest way then ? I guess this involves removing some of the panels under the engine ?

I was going to try through the rear wheel arch, but maybe underneath is easier.

It may do. Iv never done that way to say sorry. Yeah panels round passenger wheel. And may be that section of floor. But I seem to take it off for fun. Considering recently got steves front tubo out without takin floor or even heat shield off. But I do like access

Just be carefull with the solenoid, it is a hybrid and the shallow cap is off a mitsubishi, it is required to give more clearance to the tank.
