Newbie advice - accommodation at the circuit?

Hi

First time for Le Mans and wanted to know is there accommodation on-site other than camping or will I have to drive out of the circuit? Is it is better to get my ferry, race tickets and accommodation from a specialist agency? Basically don't fancy camping (and no room to carry stuff anyway!), and would prefer a 'one-stop-shop' for all the travel, tickets etc.

You will be extremely pushed to find a hotel within 25-30 miles or so of the circuit if you DIY. In fact, it'll be impossible unless you try flea-bay etc. All available rooms in Le Mans itself will have gone months ago. The ticket agencies book up most hotels for miles around years in advance.

As this is your first time, it's not a bad idea to take a ticket agency deal anyway assuming the price is OK to you. My son and I have been going since 1996. We originally started by using ticket agencies and we've progressed to DIY. In 2009 we went DIY and the cost for the two of us for Eurotunnel, hotel (single rooms) for 3 nights located 30 miles from the circuit, general entry tickets and two grandstand seats, on circuit parking and ACO membership was a total of around £800. I checked this out with a well know ticket agency and the same deal, same hotel etc would have cost a total around £1400. Then there's fuel, food, beer etc....So, you can begin to see why so many camp. I'm too old to do so and can stretch the finances to have hotel comforts!

Cutting out grandstand seats will also save you about €200.

You'll find the great majority of PHers camp and go without grandstand seats using their general entrance ticket to go wherever they can, and they are probably at Le Mans for more days than us (we're within easy range of the Eurotunnel so travel out Friday back Monday due to other commitments).

I agree with Leaper

Unless you go with the ticket agencies it's verry much 'Dead Mans Shoes' to get into local hotels



Now if you want to get into a hotel on the Mulsanne Straight I'm open to offers.

Plenty of B&B about though. Much cheaper than a hotel - about 50€ per person. Ask Le Mans tourist office - they speak english. There's a farm near me that has two rooms but that is 6 miles from the circuit. You will probably find some at Arnage and certainly Mulsanne.
