Hi Guys,

I have decided to go for a 'Crash Kill-switch' arrangement for my build, thus if the car hits something the battery is automatically disconnected, thus inmmediately stopping the fuel pumps, disconnecting all the electrics, and therefore reducing the possibility a big fire. Call it insurance if you like, but in my mind very worthwhile.

To be able to do this I have found out what is needed (all thanks and credit to MarkWebb), sourced the switch which disconnects the battery), that is the easy part.

The sensor is a 'gee' sensor which is the difficult bit as you have to have the right one, but to get it you have to open a trade account.

I will be buying 5 units of the 'gee' sensor (not a problem), but obviously only need one, so I will have 4 units available for purchase for anyone who wants to add this 'crash-kill' protection to their build.

First come- first served! Cost will be around £20 + VAT and shipping - exact amount I will advise as soon as I get them.

Just PM me if you are interested.

cheers

Keith

Two gone already!

There are more than one type of Kill-switch, but most (eg fitted to most cars these days) are way too sensitive ie they will trip over a bump, so with Marks help I have sourced the highest rated one available as fitted to ferrari etc.
MarkWebb (who got the idea first) has used one of these and he confirms it works well.

Any more?

Just a thought with these - on track would these go off if you went over rumble strip?

Once you have the kill-switch sensor, you will need the Brise Battery solenoid, which is the easier part to source (from Demon Tweeks)but is the more expensive bit at around 190 quid + vat with the manual press-button on-off switch.

So with this you can reset the battery solenoid if it gets tripped. Mark, as he says has run this system for a while now with no probs. I would also guess that if you were concerned, that there may be some way of isolating the kill-switch for track days? |Defeating the object though!

Mark, would you care to comment, having done one?

cheers

The Good - Well! I am surprised at the popularity of these kill switches!

The bad! All 5 promised now - sorry guys!

The good - if anyone wants to order one, no problem, but I need to have at least 5 people commit to the new order.
Again I re-iterate, this is NOT a commercial venture (Stig?) - just think it very worthwhile as additional safety - and thus am passing them on at cost.

So, if anyone missed the boat and would like this kill-switch, then please feel free to start a list here below, and once I have 5 or more I will be in contact and order another batch. Perhaps with the help of Marky, I will also provide details of pretty-much everything you need to install.

Cheers

I would like a kill-switch please:

I have a pair of old gattling guns you can install as well if you don't want to be subtle about it!

Hi

Do you have a manufacturer and part number? I work a fair bit with automotive inertia systems, and will pass on comments :-)

Rating for this unit is 10-16g so pretty-much the highest available for cars. Needed to stop premature tripping with hard suspension we have. Lower ones are used for things like range-rovers and the like so I am told, and Mark tried one of these and it kept tripping.

The current unit he has used for some time now with no problems.

OK,

First batch of five have gone, winging their way to those who asked.

The 'kit' includes the Kil-switch inertia unit rated at 10-16 Gees, and a weatherproof plug kit to connect your wiring to the unit. The cost is around £29.80 with UK postage

You will need some sort of electronic battery Isolator such as the Brise EV 200-H which you can get from Demo Tweeks at around £190, although you might find a cheaper one if you look around.

I have two other people who want the Kill-switch as well, so to make it happen, I need another three orders....

Anyone else?

cheers

Can I just bring this back to the top thread to remind folk that Keith has a second list on the go of people wanting to get one of these impact switches (me being one).
I believe he only needs 2 more names to get the second batch ordered, so if anyone else is wanting one, please get in touch with him.
Cheers,
Pete

Can you please put me down for a kill switch.
Fortunately I already have a battery isolator.
I bought the 'Armtech Hybrid Battery Isolator' (from Demon Tweeks) 5 years ago. Though not cheap it is a great system and will fit on the bulkhead neatly above the battery.

Thanks
Glyn

Keith,

I think you should email the Factory and offer this as an option! Its a great idea and the added safety is always a usefull thing. after all the tech has been used in cars for a LONG time now!!!!!

Chris.
