Videos: McLaren 12C Driven In Anger

Jenson Button proves that the new car's the star...

There are a handful of unmissable new videos out on the McLaren YouTube channel today.

You can check them out below, along with the official blurb:

1) Through a combination of carbon fibre expertise, innovative Formula 1-inspired technologies and development programmes, and a desire to launch a range of 'pure McLaren' road cars, the groundbreaking new McLaren MP4-12C has redefined high-performance sports car benchmarks.

2) McLaren Automotive and Jenson Button present the new McLaren MP4-12C for test driving to international media in January 2011.

3) The McLaren simulator is a software-based virtual environment which is able to accurately replicate the driving experience on any road or track surface in the world. When preparing for real-world circuit testing, a programme is run by the McLaren Automotive development team uploading data to the simulator including corner radii, gradient, track width and the 12C's performance parameters. The results are astonishingly accurate.

Anyone want a go on one of those simulators? These guys design them! I've had a go and loved it. (No connected in any way with the PTR).

That looks ace, I know Jenson's definitely got his corporate hat on, but you don't often see F1 drivers look too excited about driving a road car, and he appears to be having a ball.

I gotta get me one of those.

God I do love those cars. I know it's pretty insignificant, but my dad also likes it, now it must be a nice looking car if he does because he hates wedge shaped cars (Ferrari, Lambo etc).

WANT!!!

I really don't think there's been a car I've seen that I want as much as one of these.
I simply love everything about this car cloud9

Really hope I get to see one up close!

Everyone who's driven it says it really is as good as McLaren claim. Amazing piece of engineering.

279 g/km is a massive achievement for a car with such performance.

McLaren are definitely showing they are more than one step ahead on all fronts with the 12C.

Was that rev counter designed by Gerald Ratner? The cheesy plastic chromeyness isn't at all in keeping with the rest of the car's design or engineering.

I'm not sure it's that brilliant tbh. A 5 litre supercharged jag, which weighs practically twice what thay car weighs has circa 280g/km co2

The maca hasn't got any real consesions to low emissions, other than a trick transission and a relatively low road load. If it were DI, had varriable cam timming and intake, cylinder deac, and twin lift tappets i should think a CO2 number in the low 220-230's would be easily possible!

The engine is just the MCT V8, basically a "roadified" race engine.

How much does that Jag rev to? What does weight have to do with CO2 emissions?

Also your "just an MCT V8" made me laugh. It is not just an MCT V8, why do people just blindly quote what they have heard on the internet?

It seems to me, from what we've seen and read today, that a British company has built the very best real-world supercar there is, and in these times, when we seem to have sold most of what we do well down the river a long time ago, this McLaren gives us something to be proud of. May sound like patriotic gumf but its definately made my day better. Thanks Ron.
