Just wondering who on here is into their Bang and Olufsen? anybody a member on beoworld? having some technical difficulties synchronizing my serenata with my macbooks itunes, had to downgrade the version of itunes in order to sync as i understand that they no longer have the licensing on the newer versions, can anybody confirm if this too is the case on the PC? Cheers

I was a big B&O fan 15yrs ago but as they became more 'exclusive' and limiting in terms of connectivity to non B&O devices I gave up.

I had a Beoviosion TV that was fantastic but when everyone else was introducing plasma at a fraction of the price I let go.

Still have a Beosound 9000 and Pentalab 3 speakers. Looks great but played perhaps once in the last 2 years. Says it all really.

Some early stuff is now iconic - regret selling my 5500 system as the black/aluminium looked the dogs.

I Know what you mean with regards to connectivity, i used to work for the brand so have a geeky level of interest, but like you say you can get plasmas at a fraction of the price, it all goes back to the analogy do you buy a SClass Merc or a Mondeo? both get you to the shops and back in reasonable comfort, both fairly reliable and both subtle to the eye......its what you want out of the product which sways you to b&o or other makes, personally for the sound side cant fault them and would go hands down, on the TV front....well i can only dream of the 103" at a price of £110'000.00 still everythings impressive and superb quality....unfortunately its going to come at a price! hold onto your b&o keep it in good condition in the future may fetch a fair bit when people want retro looking things!

Well that is the problem. I like the remotes but I have a PS3 (used as bluray player) which is bluetooth and Sky HD - Sky has a funny remote anyway so pretty impossible.

Not sure how people get one with the remotes but they do look fab!

I've reasonably sure the Beo5 can control non-B&O devices, see here for example:

http://beo5.beoworld.org/Downloads.htm

The shame is the Beo5 is nothing like as user-friendly & intuitive as the Beo4.

If you have a very straightforward setup eg purely audio, then the Beo4 is possibly more approriate. Anything else, such as controlling the SKy box etc, then a properly setup Beo5 is streets ahead. Note the phrase "properly setup"

I think you'd be doing well to fully navigate a beo5 without looking at it at all as you can a beo4. That's my definition of user friendly and intuitive.

I have a Beo5 that controls my B&O tv but also the sky box, mac mini front row, panasonic bluray and a PS3 the sky and bluray with an ir lead. So it can be done quite easilly. B&O Guildford are the boys in my area who are excellent

Have a B&O phone, the banana one, had a different model before some smack head broke in and stole it.

Look beautiful, utter crap to use.

Apparently Phillips inside, what kit do they sell with their own tech inside?

All kit has their own tech inside. If you really want to find out about the design, manufacturing and testing processes then go and see your local store.

Some of the components in each product will come from a sub supplier. I doubt anyone is suprised by that as it's the same for nearly every company in the world. Do you think Ferrari make every component in their cars?

It's the way the world works. No company could design, tool for, and build, every component, so they keep the bits they want in house and source in the rest. In the case of B&O the sourced in components are to their own spec. The Plasma panels from the Panasonic factory and are the same as used in Panasonic commercial displays. Everything else is B&O, the picture processing, the sound decoding, etc etc.

Companies sell parts to each other to build products out of. A B&W zeppelin has B&O amplifiers in it. A BMW has aluminium parts made by B&O, as do Audi and several other car brands.

The "It's philips inside" argument is the result of some very poor products 20 or 30 years ago, that pretty much were just rebadged philips items.

Thanks for the info (rather than the condescending tone), I meant the phone is apparently Phillips inside, not all their kit.

I find B&O stuff looks lovely, but it's not great value for money and not very compatible with other kit. Love their car stereos in Audis though
