Bought this a couple of months ago (the other car is an "infamous" 335d but a Touring!!) - 110XS in Tonga green on a 57 plate.

Had it's quirks (errmm - bits of rust, loud, slow, Ford Transit engine, etc) but REALLY like it! It was superb in the ice/snow, tows our little boat well and is a great short distance family (have a 2 year old and a 2 week old) and dogmobile.

Heated seats are great after a surf too! The main downer is the killer tax costs. £435 a year for a 122bhp car - OUCH.

Very nice.

The tax bit pisses me off because it takes no account of how many miles a vehicle actually does in a year so does not really actually have any relevence to actual emissions!!!

Cheers all! I used to drive them as part of a job (Geotec Engineer) and wife's father had several (wife took her test in a 90 pickup!) but never actually owned one.

The tax thing is nasty and it will probably break down but loving it so far. Was brilliant in the snow and ice and it does get used for "proper" off roading ;-)

Definitely need to keep on top of the rust though - getting it fully Waxoyled in the Spring.

You have got to love a Defender, all it needs is some better tyres.smile

Finding the TRs (M&S rated) okay and they're new too so not keen on replacing them yet. Coped fine in snow and ice and they don't rattle our teeth out on the road. Good all rounders even if they're not all that "hardcore."

Done a fair bit of looking into tyres - the more "full on" ones are crummy on the road and much as it's "wrong" we have two kids to ferry around as well as using it for just fun so proper mud tyres are not an option.

Lovely looking example, enjoy.
And OUCH on the Tax!
My 06 TDV6 Sport is £215, due to being registered two weeks before the cut off date of 23/03/06.
Usual well thought through policy of Nu Labia!

Green - I have to admit, I messed up a bit on that one - bought a late 2006 BM 335d (just over £200 a year) and then the 57 reg Landy. So £650ish a year on tax. Whoops. Better enjoy them I guess!

Being 35 (my wife is 32) and living in the middle of nowhere in Cornwall means cheap insurance - in fact it's less than the tax we have to shell out!

The tax is a bugger, my 2.0 Focus was just £10 cheaper on tax than the RRS. Doesn't make a lot of sense for a 'medium sized family car' although not the smallest engine.

Still, better that you bought the model and year you wanted. Rather than look at models that only qualify for lower tax.

As you say, once you're out and about in it, tax should be a distant memory.

Very Jealous on the insurance though! thumbup

Don't be - it means I'm old which has no benefits at all.

Old you may be, but you're younger than me (just) wink

Guess that's what you get for living in East London/Essex borderlands instead of the countryside!!!

O/T popped into the dealers today for cost to change on a new RRS, and the part/ex price was the same as 12 months ago, I was happy then as well.
LR residuals are holding up well.
