My girlfriend is from down there but not sure on Villas as we usually stay with her folks.
Watch out for the mopeds!!! Whereabouts and when were you planning on going?

Fluids: Spare oil (including clutch/gearbox), spare coolant, spare water.
Electrics: Spare set of fuses including a big fuse, spare bulbs, spare battery/know your current one is in good condition, spare fully charged battery for mobile phone incase of getting stuck somewhere
Mechanics: Spare throttle cable? Full set of tools, Spare starter motor if you can borrow one/care enough/are handy with spanners, bottle of RadWeld incase of dire emergencies (I'd imagine you've got a 50/50 chance of frigging the car with it, though)
Other: RAC/AA European cover, lots of miscellaneous wire, rubber bungs, glue, sealant, string, etc. (to build a raft to sail home on, obviously ), Knowledge of where/whether you can get high-octane petrol all the way (and possibly bottle of octane booster for emergencies), digital tyre pressure gauge, couple of cans of tyre-weld, an appropriate tool kept separately incase you need to get in the secret way at any point, spare set of keys

I'm sure there's a load of other things everyone else can think of, too...

Joolz, sounds like that remote telemetry idea might not be such a bad concept...

JS, are you currently working for the British Tourist Board? That was the best advert
for 'Holiday At Home' I've seen!

You could also have posted a much shorter version by saying, you need just two things.

1) Your Cerbera.
2) A back up truck with a team of trained mechanics and full rebuild capability.

I guess when you go on holiday you only take the clothes you are wearing. No bloomin space for anything else.

I doubt you will need octane booster in Italy. They have V-Power, very good stuff 99 or 100 ron

We're off to Tuscany in August! Rented a farmhouse for a week, and are going to spend a 2nd week driving back, stopping off at Maranello, Monte Carlo, Nice, Switzerland, Reims and Eurodisney.

However, with kids squashed in the back, the heat and '000s of miles driving with no dealerships out that way, we decided not to take the Cerb. Instead, aural delights will be supplied by Prancing (and Mrs Prancing) in their 'Rari 456GT who will be accompanying us.

With regards to villas and places to stay, just do some searches on the web....there are loads of companies offering tons of villas, farmhouses, apartments, etc. I think we eventually booked through www.holiday-rentals.co.uk.

Looks like it's gonna be a great holiday, so good luck with booking somewhere nice!

Cheers,

Neil

I've just got back from a week-and-a-bit in Africa having taken nothing other than a rucksack - I do like to travel light.

Don't know what the petrol stations are like in Italy, but there's all the countries on the way there to consider, too! I've never done the drive, but I'd be mighty pd off if my car ran like a dog for the sake of a £5 bottle of octane booster that'd fit in a corner somewhere.

I was actually thinking of that AA/RAC advert where the card turns into the mechanic, tools, truck, and hovering satellite while I was typing it.

Which reminds me... I'd take a Jerry can full of spare petrol, too.
