FIA 8856-2000 Suit - not for karting. Why?!

Afternoon all

Recently bought myself an OMP race suit, all very lovely and very (very) chuffed with it. It's 8856-2000 so I can use it in MSA events this year, but what struck me was writing in it that says it's not suitable for karting. I wondered why? Is it because there's no skid protection? I.e. if I slid along the ground? I can't think of any other reason why!

Kart suits are abrasion resistant, car suits not so much.

Yup, Kart suits abrasion proof (feel like hard nylon), race suits are more importantly, fireproof, which I dont think karts suits are, at least, not to the same degree (3 layer etc).

Unless your competing in Karting though I shouldn't worry about it, other than getting it fckngin filthy and oil sprayed up the back.

Yup I won't be competing in karting, just doing stuff every now and then - but will be competing in tin tops. I did think about the dirtiness! This is the one I've got;

- so sod getting that filthy

I got given a kart style race suit last year (that hard nylon type feel) so will use that for karting.

To be worn complete with a white neck tie I assume?

If you compete in arrive and drive (indoor, Club100 etc), they don't check kit so you would be able to use them for that. However, I'd be reluctant to use them anywhere but indoor because the MSA require kart standard suits for a good reason. It's easy to get hold of a used kart spec suit for 30 quid on ebay.
