BMW 123d opinions
Discussion
Mnonsense is the only trim option to really consider.
These are truly great cars, though there has been many problems with clutch judder and they can wear those runflats rather badly around the edge of the tyre (just today £372 for 2 new fronts on the wifes).
123d all the way, but if you go for a 120d and can afford it, BMW do a 197 power upgrade for the 120d. It's more than just an ECU flash and fully warranted.
Has to be Msport trim. The rest of the models don't cut it. You might not like the seats though.

Very impressive for a diesel! The power doesn't tail off like the 120d due to the second turbo. Get it mapped and your good for 250bhp+. In real life with some A roads and and town driving and some leathering it now and again it averages 45mpg. Steering for me is a little woolly, but the chassis tight and responsive (m sport)

Ohh did I mention Xenons?!?!.
They are a must on the 1er as the boggo lights arn't up to much and they also make the car look much more agressive.
I drive my wifes all the time and I can hustle it along just as quick as my 340hp iS in the twisties.
Funny you should say that one of the cars I've been looking at on ebay has xenonsThey are a must on the 1er as the boggo lights arn't up to much and they also make the car look much more agressive.

Interesting that you rate a car primarily by it's looks, true petrolhead!
Look, I appreciate a good drivers car, believe me. I've never driven a 1 series so can't comment on how they drive. However one presumes the hatch and coupe drive the same - and given the choice betwixt coupe and hatchwagon I would plump for the coupe every time... the hatch just doesn't float my boat I'm afraid.
Capiche?

I think in terms of purely satisfying names to say it is the top choice. "What do you drive?" "Oh, a 123d," just rolls of the tongue beautifully.
Had one when my old car was in for a bit of work and I found the engine very pleasing and, having never driven a rear wheel drive hatch before, a lot of fun.
