Sky+ sound issues - Boardwalk Empire

I was watching a recording of BE last night and noticed the sound was only stereo. Ive watched previous episodes from Sky Anytime and it has been in full surround sound.

Films i record all come with full surround so what is causing a recording of BE (and Hawaii 5-0) to be recorded in simple stereo? Have i got a setting wrong? I feed the amp with optical.

Box is the plain Sky+ (not HD)

well if everything else thats meant to be surround comes in surround I would say that episode may have just be broadcasted by sky in stereo?
Just a guess like. But it cant just be one thing not playing surround if everything else is.
