Passenger Window behaving oddly

Hi All

Over the last few weeks, the passenger window on my 2003 Tuscan S (Mk1) has been bahaving strangely. Can someone advise what and where the issue is and is it an easy and innexpensive fix ??

(PS. Just fitted a new battery - not for this problem, so the disconnection/reconnection hasn't fixed this)

Scenario.
Unlock car with fob. Press door opener on passenger mirror. Window winds down (slightly more than normal), a slightly longer delay in popping door, door pops, then window goes all the way down (doesn't normally). Getting in and closing door - window goes back up about two thirds, then stops. Have to close window manually using inside knob. Same happens when getting out again. Alarming car and window goes up again about two thirds. So I (driver) have to close it mannually with knob before I get out, then alarm the car. Driver side is fine and working normally.

Sounds like the window encoder, a very simple and inexpensive fix. You need to remove the door card (3 bolts in the doorcard pouch) Then find the window encoder which is held on with one screw. Remove and either clean and dry or replace with a new one. Refit door card and all should be good.

The door encoder sensor reads the window position when the door is opened and closed.

Yep would agree had a similar problem on mine when I had it, turned out that the encoder doesn't like the damp weather.

For how long can you live with it? Mine acted up for a few weeks before settling back down without me needing to do anything.

Well I suppose I could live with it ! Perhaps I'll wait for a nice warm day, park the beast outside in the sun, and see if this will dry things out. Roll on August !

same happened to me after a particularly wet trip down to Le Mans last year. Thankfully it was fine until I got home then the passenger window wouldn't close. I bought a new encoder plannijng to swap it out and the day I came to do it the window began operating as it should!

So I have an encoder sat in the garage in case it ever plays up again and doesn't fix itself

My window (driver's side) has also played up a few times - but only after I wash the car.

From fully up, when I open the door to get out, the window drops as normal, but then when I close the door, it will not come up again. But, when I arm the alarm to lock the car, it goes up fine. And when it dries, its fine..

I've had the same problem, I stripped out both doors and dried all the electric connectors using a hairdryer (as you'll be surprised how damp it can be in there) then greased up all the connections and have never had a problem since! Mr C
