As I was sat in the gym last night (recovering)

I thought: "Why should I have to take out 2 insurance policies on 2 cars, when I am only ever going to be able to drive one at once?"

It's right though eh? I'm 18, and I really want to keep the VTS but need something sensible and reliable for work, but want the Saxo for the weekends.

The insurance on the Saxo is 1300, if I want a sensible car it'll be about a 1000ish, but I will only be able to drive one at once, so even if I have to pay more why does it have to be an extra thousand?

Espicially since I will be "less of a risk" in a german deseasil ?

Thoughts?

I understand this will never happen, as they make too much money etc..

take a policy out that covers you instead of the car, cost more granted but then you can drive which car you like *

  • depending on the T&c of the policy

Because what will happen when someone crashes into your other car while you're in the other and drives off, or someone pours paint stripper over it? It's not just about driving it.

I think that is the most depressing concept I've ever heard: a saxo as a weekend car.... And I thought a Z3M wouldnt be special enough to keep exclusively for weekend use...

There are a variety of reasons.

Firstly that any car you own either has to be declared SORN or if taxed MUST be insured wef 04/02/2011.

Secondly, the car may be stolen or damaged as has already been said.

Laid up cover (stationary as you call it) doesn't really exist for modern cars.

Theoretically you could chop and change between cars every Friday and Sundy night, but the costs for mid term adjustment would probably add up to more than paying for insurance on each car anyway.

As an aside the insurance industry pays out £1.22 for every £1 they receive in premiums so hardly a cash cow.

One of my mates bought a diesel A3 automatic for his weekend car. I amused myself for about a week emailing him classified ads for various 2nd hand exotica he could have bought for the same money.

Presumably your comment is limited to motor insurance. Otherwise insurers are going to need some mighty fancy investment returns!

You haven't heard many concepts then have you?

The Saxos are a good drive around the roads where I live, espicially when you go up the dales.

Ever driven a VTS?
