with interest rates about to go up, i just wondered what people thought about the state of the market....some people tell me the uk market is dead and the only things selling are for export - which i can believe, and others say the market is fine....and they are selling loads...

both cannot be right, esp with the same old cars up for sale for months and months, sure some will be sheds, but not all of them...

...any idea where the market is heading over the next few months ?

Not exactly ferraris but I deal with the prestige market and I would say that a lot of this end of the market is being propped up by the extremely bouyant export market.

Things are still selling in the UK, but the customer base is a lot smaller than it was 3/4 years ago where money was being thrown at everyone who dared walk through the door. There is still a pretty good UK market but people are a lot more clearly being a lot more cautious with their buying decisions.

From my experience dealers are looking to the exporters to prop up their numbers and the manufacturers are hating it!

I have been watching prices over the last few months - as that itch still needs scratching!! and with a few exceptions stock seems to be sticking; which cannot be good news for prices longer term

I think the economy will take a dip again so I personally have put any new big purchases on hold until next year and I know several other people doing the same; which probably makes a smaller market, even smaller.

i have to agree , not a lot seems to be selling, and people are def feeling the pinch...just think prices could be quite low by the end of the year..

only wants for the export market to tail off and they will be giving them away !!

The market is always dead over the winter months but now spring and summer are approaching I have been told prices will go up and not down. Some dealers are finding it hard to source good cars and with 458 prices north of £200k IF you can get one I don't see F430 prices doing a lot unless the wheels totally come off the economy.

The more that get exported the better as far as I am concerned as that will make those left even more desirable as not many people will import them back in

You are right that the Export Market is strong but the UK market is also doing well. If you have an F430 in a good colour with the right spec and history it will sell quite easily. Most dealers won't have to advertise the good cars they will already have the phone number for keen buyer (a lot goes on behind the scenes). Keeping you eye on dealership stock that is sticking won't give you the full picture. A Car will stick if its a poor example and there are plenty of dogs in the Marketplace at the moment that cloud a good market. Some owners who unfortunately couldn't afford to maintain there Cars properly have been forced to try and sell them they are appearing on sale or return in Dealerships at unrealistic prices and not selling .Prices of good examples are already starting to go up .Spring has nearly sprung!

I'd love to see a recovery in the market generally - this doom and gloom gets boring after a while! But everyone I speak to is saying times are tough and getting toughe - I suppose an interest rate rise or two may just send us one way or the other quite quickly!

Right now the Market is very strong and if anything demand for export has slowed in recent months.

I understand F458's are being offered at list price. A close friend who is already in the queue was offered two different cars approx 4 weeks ago.

Well all UK cars are sold for 2011, and there are very few of them coming in. I doubt premiums will last much longer, but when the usual suspects are just selling LHD then you can be sure there are not so many flushing around. If he was on the list and offered list why did he not take it? Were they both in Avorio....

He is still on the list for a new car. The two he was offered were 1 owner physical cars. 1 had near delivery mileage and 1 had cover approx 3,000 miles. Both were RHD.

well lots of cars seem to be sticking and not just Fcars....so how dealers can say everything is fine makes me wonder ... but i suspose they would say that..

what makes me laugh is.....a few sunny days forecast , they put prices up, banker bonuses announced...prices go up....

....then they dont sell and prices go down again.....

personally unless you are prepared to sell your car cheapish you stand little or no chance....

328 - up
348 - hold (it's a cheap modern(ish) v8 ferrari)
355 - hold/up (will overtake 360)
360 - down (except for stradale which will be up)
430 - down slowly (until 458's drop below list and a full range comes out)
550 - up
575 - down/hold (the 550 will overtake)
612 - down (as is always the case with a v12)
599 - down
enzo - down
f40 - hold (pos' down if the economy tanks and the euro drops)
f50 - hold (as above)
288 gto - hold (as above)

just my 2p's worth of course... now if i had a few hundred thousand to add to my 2p's worth, i would have the blue zonda at avro motor company and keep it for ever and ever and ever.

anyone with a nice 328, 355 and 550 in their garage is probably pretty well insulated from depreciation right now

I agree the above, but even the 335 seems to be feeling the effects - perhaps its the bigger running costs (engine out)associated with it that scare people and why they may opt for a 360 instead?

To be honest that was a big part of the decision process for me, the 355 is just beautiful, far prettier than the 360, but the running costs put me off.

I wanted a car I could use whenever I wanted in any weather without too much worry and the 355 in my eyes is just a little too fragile for that.

numerous people in the know have told me that the 355 is hardier than the 360 and cheaper to run too (less issues with suspension and the f1 gearbox which isn't as savage on the 355 as it is on the 360).

Have run both for long periods and the 355 is a cheaper car overall to run. 360 was forever going through ball joints etc and had more bits of trim that liked to drop off. Hence now I've gone back to a 355.

Little things like a clutch change on a 355 is an hour as it sits on the back of the gearbox, on a 360 it's a much bigger job being in the middle of the engine/gearbox.

Performance is identical between the two despite what road tests may have said (well having gone head to head on Europe trips with well known people on here). So go for looks and the way they drive rather than running costs.

Having run both at the same time, I pretty much agree. Both cars were very reliable but the 360 developed a few small issues that were not cheap to fix. Plus when I walked into the garage and saw the 355 I had no desire whatsoever to drive the 360. It looked like the fat moustachioed elder sister compared to the svelte and sultry prettier model. Seeing them both together really emphasised the differences.
