How do I turn the F************** off?
Discussion
Slightly on this topic but something I've been wondering. Is it possible to turn off all the bongs and dongs that new cars seem to have?
I've used a couple of hire cars recently that seemed to make noises for everything; when you open the door, when you go over 30, when you go over 70, when you've turned the lights off or on, when you've shifted your buttocks to an uneven weight distribution, when you have one of those inexplicably long eyebrow hairs that goes straight up, even when it thinks you're in the wrong gear!
I think I'd find that incredibly annoying.

My compamy car does most of that, but the seat belt warning is the most frustrating!

Had a hire car that insisted on putting on the hazard lights everytime I braked on a B road - I'll decide if I'm a hazard you jumped up little French jalopy. GrrrrrMy compamy car does most of that, but the seat belt warning is the most frustrating!
I used to have a toad alarm on my old Escort and it had a valet mode to stop exactly this thing happening (it going nuts when opening/closing doors etc) and to put it in valet mode you put the keys in the ignition, turned it to pre ignition, then held the unlock key for 2 seconds. The indicators would flash and the alarm would do no more. Then, once all finished, just push LOCK and it would all be back to normal again.
Do you have instructions and things with it? What you're after is "valet mode" - so either look online for the model of alarm you have, or look in the instructions (or try my Toad way
)

There is a Valet button on the dash....you maybe onto something there! Do you have instructions and things with it? What you're after is "valet mode" - so either look online for the model of alarm you have, or look in the instructions (or try my Toad way

Problem is I have no intstruction and dont know the model number!

Mine does that too!Heavy braking makes the brake lights flash rapidly and proper mega heavy braking makes the hazards come on! I nearly crash trying to turn the damn things off-how ironic is that!!!!!
(Volvo garage nearly had a heart attack when I asked for that feature to be turned off...they wouldnt do it).

Yes indeed, but after 30 seconds it locks itself again. And if you leave teh door open (to clean inside for example) it tries to lock after 30 secs and when it cant, the alarm goes off.

Get it uninstalled pronto, if the thing is fritzy now, do you want the damn thing leaving you stranded on a wet motorway somewhere ?
I agree. Just spoken to an auto electric chap near me, who has never heard of the alarm type, but says that he will probably be able to get rid of it.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
