The odd couple
Discussion
A few of pictures of the 'beast' and my Cerb.
I've had the Saab for years and it's currently running a modern Saab engine management system at about stage two level. Has a front mount intercooler and a 'modern' hybrid turbo too, so it's a bit of a nutcase. Currently sitting on about 200k miles, it just seems to get better and is a devastating overtaking weapon.
I bought the Cerb in August last year having owned a nice Chimaera a few years' earlier. I thought it would be just like the Chim, only faster, but they are very different animals. Apart from the looks, the only thing I can find in common is that they are the most comfortable cars I've ever owned. It's a fairly early 4.2, but has a 4.5 engine from a Tuscan challenge car fitted, so it's pretty brisk...Had a bit of an bump in it late last year when the roads were slippy, but it's pretty much ready for the road again now.
(first pic is from the previous owner)
After my bump...
During the repairs.
How she looks now.
Should have her back sometime next week, ready for the nicer weather, hopefully.

Lovely looking Cerb and has a nice engine in it too!
My neighbour used to own a blue one of these and had the Tuscan 7/8 spoke wheels on it. Looked beautiful but was often heading off to the Exeter dealer on the back of a truck and replacing it with a T350C.. barely had the car home as it was always off being fixed.
I believe he sold it and bought a T350C before getting a Scoob P1 which I believe he still has now.
The Saab.. I actually don't know what to say. Never been much on Saabs, my great aunt still has a brown 9000 with the chrome wheel trims.

I guess a lot of people don't get Saabs, bit of a love/hate car. In it's defense, it's a tidy handler, double-hard (I once got clattered by a lorry and all the car needed was a wing pushed out and a new bumper-skin) and very quick when tuned a little.
I also had this old 635csi, which was sold last summer to make way for the Cerb. Black on black with a manual gearbox - stunning.

liking the 6'er lots
How do you find the cerb for rear passengers? I've got a couple of young kids (8/10) and was thinking this could be a different option to a 911?
I'd say it's about the same as a 911, so it mostly depends on how tall the people in the front seats are. I'm 6'2 so there's little room behind my front seat. If you're 5'11 or below, you should easily be able to fit kids upto about 10 in the back, though the front passenger seat slides a long way forwards, so you could probably get an adult in the back if you did this. My kids are 1&2 so still in those chunky baby/child seats which definitely don't fit....How do you find the cerb for rear passengers? Hope that makes sense
The old Saab hasn't been on the dyno since the conversion, but I would say it *feels* comfortably north of 250bhp and I wouldn't be surprised if it was nudging 300bhp. It really is freakishly fast and quite alarming when the boost comes in.
Can't wait to get Cerbie back; it's been about two and a half months since I heard her V8.
Edit: just seen the Porsche in your profile. Oof, that's lovely....an old Turbo?

Yeah, 964. But not mine
Ah well...one day?I'm ashamed to say that I didn't do the Trionic conversion on the Saab myself. Something to do with lack of skills/time/equipment etc. I got a local enthusiast who runs a garage to do it. Had a fair few teething problems; all to do with the fact that the parts for the conversion were taken from a scrap car and some were pretty knackered. Got there in the end, though it's eaten it's clutch now so we'll be fitting a beefier one in due course.
Will try and dig out some pics of my old Chimaera and post those up, too.
Thanks for the compliments chaps.
The Cerb made 384bhp on the rollers, but this was with the 4.2 manifolds fitted (they were cracked as well). I've got some nice stainless performance ones going on at the moment which I've been advised should liberate circa twenty horses, so would be nice to see over 400, just for pub bragging rights. She's pretty rabid when you open her up now though.
Not got the Saab on the rollers yet as the clutch is slipping, but I'd expect a strong result. The map needs a bit of fine tuning too, and the exhaust has succumbed to London's many speed bumps, so need to do that as well. Oh and the front tyres are spent....
The 635 was great fun with the manual box, and the Chim, roof off, find a tunnel and.....
