I have fitted into the boot light a CTEK Smart charger that Racing Green fitted while my car was in for PDI/service before i collected it.
Although im fairly certain that the battery, being the orginal battery from factory, was dead anyway i had a CTEK charger on it most of the time knowing that these chargers cut out automatically when its full and maintian the battery so it ready whenever you need it, i was told that the CTEK charger should never be left on all the time or it will boil the battery and kill it.

Now i thought these chargers were meant to left on all the time? Any ideas anyone how you guys keep your batterys topped up ready for the day you wanna start the car?

Over the last 14 months, when not in use i kept the Cerb on charge constantly with an Accumate battery charger, started first time every time and never adversely affected the battery or car. I'm fairly certain the CTEK is the same and it does indeed adjust the the charge input to the required level.

I've got a CTEK charger on the Sagaris and it has three settings, Full, Half and Winter - I have always assumed (don't have the manual) that the Winter setting is a maintenance type charger that just keeps the battery charged up and designed to be left on. I don't actually use the charger like this as I have no power where the car is kept.

Not sure which model I've got, but my Tamora has a charger fitted in the boot, and I leave that on all winter and I've not had a problem. She started first time a couple of weeks ago, so I guess the battery has been kept in perfect condition.

Great news. I did think that the CTEK is a self top up charger and self monitors the battery itself. Ill put it down to a dead battery then.

Thanks all for yr help....again! rolleyes

When the green light shows on the C-TEK the battery is charged and the charger stops, when the voltage drops it re-peaks the battery. Test it: switch the lights on or open the boot, the charger is sensitive enough to pick up the boot light coming on on mine.

Ditto with Accumate
When charged light is green, disconnect charger open and close door/boot etc, reconnect and amber light is on instead. I've noticed that the light goes back to green much quicker on the Tam than it did on the Cerb, would this be a battery issue or does the Cerb just make greater demands on the battery?
