I went through the Dartford tolls around 6.40am this Wednesday and some official type wrote my reg number down on their clipboard as I went through a non-attended booth.
Anyone know why they would do this?

Just wondering how you know what he wrote... Could he have admired your car and written down the make and model for future reference, for example?

Probably because the automated system that normally does it wasn't working at the time.

You are being monitored constantly by ANPR when you drive around the UK these days, unless you are driving on the 5% of roads not covered by Trafficmaster. Typical that people only take notice when they actually see a person rather than one of the several million machines taking the data...
