This has happened twice now.
1st time,
Going down M1 about 80 and the power just started to fade away,
It was raining so at first I thought I was just aquaplaining (that's what it felt like) as the power would quickly pick back up.
then when it really started to slow I pulled over, I figured I was out of Petrol -gauge is very tempramental- filled up and thought no more of it.
That was about two weeks ago.
Tonight going uphill (50ish)power started to drop, well it just seemed like momentum was carrying me forward really. changed through all gears and power returned then straight away went in each gear..
pulled over, remembered I had filled the tank two/three days ago.
Wondering if it could be related to the fuel guage? not enough getting to engine?
Google throws up distribution/ignition heat related probs and also MAF problems
PH search is broken at mo.

any ideas/suggestions welcomed.

Sounds like the typical distributor problem on these. You'll need a new one.

There's also a mod to stop the problem rearing it's head again further down the line:
