Driving behind my father's car last night and noticed his reverse lights were on. He was driving forward, not reversing into me laugh
He says that when his handbrake is on they stay on aswell.
Can anybody diagnose the problem without him calling into a garage?

There will be a big screw in switch, (about the size and rough shape of a spark plug, on an old escort which I had a similar problem with) on the side of the gearbox, with a wire attached to it. The ball part of the switch is probably stuck, if it's similar to the one I had. I'd have a go at locating and unscrewing it to have a look. I got a replacement from a scrapper for a fiver IIRC.

Thanks Pacman.
I've told him what you've said so he's going to have a look at it later on.
He's been told to take the bulbs out for now until he has time to look at it properly.

If it were me, I'd speak to the parts department of a Renault dealer for a quote on a reversing light switch. You don't have to buy from them, but it would give you the opportunity to ask some casual questions, eg, what does it look like so you get the right one, also, is it easy to get at as well? etc..
Have fun!
