It's Friday, so time to indulge in a spot of light window shopping in the classifieds! This is a largely hypothetical what car, and the rules are:

  • Strictly under £5k
  • Must be a 2WD (front or rear) road-orientated car - no off-roaders, vans or competition cars
Top priority is fun factor (however you choose to interpret that) and there are extra marks for anything a bit leftfield (providing its still viable transport).

People will obviously pipe up that it's an auto and, as such, no fun. I will point to the brilliant linear power delivery that you only et with a multivalve V8 and that the box could be the slowest thing in the world, you'll always been in the right gear.

Proper car

I know I posted this in another topic yesterday, but I've got a real hankering for a 318iS at the moment. If I had an extra space in the garage I'd seriously consider something like this.

No, they could not. To be honest I just wanted an example. The cheap wheels that one has would put me right off for a start. If I were seriously looking I'd be on the phone to this guy

although it's obviously on intergalactic mileage, the manual is really rather rare, though I hear that the box is a bag of crap.

Not sure I could live with that dashboard, though.

I'm going for this. rare manual 635 Csi

A beautifull classic BMW sharknosed Coupe, with 4 proper seats.

I was hoping to see a late model motorsport Csi but prices seem to have rocketed since I last looked at 6 series prices.

Very nice indeed. I've often thought that a good one of these with a supercharger added would make a fantastic trackable road car.

Corvette.
Funnily enough I test drove a 1986 928 and a 1985 Corvette and chose the Corvette which I ran as a daily driver for 3 years. Great fun.

This has the manual box and the "proper distributor" L98 with 250hp. The raer indicators and the incorrect wing badges want removing though.

I may get flamed for this but I just love these and have never seen one which is a low mileage as this, and only 1 owner.

If you can push the budget:

http://www.racecarsdirect.com/listing/31010/Porsch...
Inside looks a little messy but nothing a tin of hammerite wouldn't sort. It's a track car too, so not exactly road-orientated.

If not:
