I had 3 Minis over the years, starting with a '69 1000 estate that still had a dynamo, sliding windows and bits of wire to open the doors!
Then a '73(? - L-reg anyway) 1000 saloon which (strange but true) I co-owned with a blind guy. The arrangement ceased when he started calling my parents house at 2AM wanting a lift because he had the munchies!
Last one I had was an R-reg Clubman which wouldn't have been so bad had it actually had the 1100 engine it was built with irked Some feaky snucker had switched it for a 1000. Still, what can you expect for £50. I welded up the sills, sold it for £120 and bought a Skoda Estelle, a much nicer car! biggrin

I passed my test in 1969 so minis have always been a big part of my life.
Lost track of how many I've owned, but each one was a great little car in its own way, and all different. Noisy on long runs, but no car like them for zipping around town or along narrow country lanes. smile

I recall a custom car mag article back in the 80s about a guy who'd bought an ex-GPO Mini van with the intention of squeezing a Rover V8 into it. Then he found someone had beaten him to it, so instead he went for a small-block Chevy driving a Jag rear axle!
The whole transplant was accomplished without changing the outside appearance other than two large rear wheelarches to accommodate the fat alloys!
Inside it was a different matter with the seats moved rearward and angled outwards to clear the transmission and a big alloy box to hide it all.

I recall another Mini that was either in Street Machine or Car and Car Conversions (used to get both!) that was a pickup with a 302 in the back. Probably late 80s?

I once stopped next to a Reliant Kitten at some lights.
At first I sniggered because it appeared to sit too high, as though the wheels were too big for it.
Then I chortled as I heard the loud throbby, crackly exhaust note emanating from it.
Then the lights changed and as it disappeared into the distance I caught sight of the V8 badge on the back... eek
