One of my keys will lock/unlock the car but will not start it. My BMW specialist said it is a coding issue and wont communicate with the immobiliser.

I know a stealer will charge a lot for a new key so if I was to buy a genuine one from ebay would a specialist be able to code it for use with the car?

£132 I paid for key and 'valet' key, so around £110 for just the key. I would take no chances...

mmm, thought that migth be the case.

My car was in with DMWorx on Friday and I thought your car was there Quinten but it was someone else's Silverstone Blue M5. Not often you see two M5 in at one time. smile

Have you tried changing the battery and re-coding it yourself? It's a bit of a faff and you need all the keys handy, but it's in the owners manual (at least that's all I had to do on another E39 5 series).
It was the key that I was using all the time and just stopped starting the car. It opens and closes the doors OK so not sure if it would be the battery but its worth a try.
