Any pest control experts in the house?
Discussion
We have a property that for whatever reason is being targeted by mice.
We have blocked up any entry holes and those where the mice emerge, cautioned the tenants about not leaving food about and asked them to keep edible stuff in sealed containers.
The property is Victorian and there is an unoccupied / semi derilict property next door - though it is not heated and there is no food source.
We will as a last resort call the council in, but would prefer to deal with the matter in-house.
We are using difenacoum in open trays and traps. I suspect this will get rid of the problem but I am more concerned about another infestation.
We have other properties in the area of the same age and condition and not a single problem.
Anyone with any knowledge in this area that can offer advice please?
Where abouts are you??? As might know people in tge area who can sort for you!!
They are living next door as unoccupied and coming on food hunting trips into your place!!
They don't care it's unheated and are you sure there is no food source next door?? A mouse needs less than 3g of food a day to survive!
When you say you've blocked all holes, you need to block anything you can fit a Biro pen into for adults and a lot lOt smaller holes for youngsters.
Difenacoum of bromadalobe are both good to use and traps are a must.
If you need any more help just shout.
Hth??

You reckon they are living in the derelict house then yes? Might have to involve the public health lot.
Not heated next door means they are coming through for a nice warm up. Make sure even the smallest hole is blocked up - if you can fit a bic biro through a mouse will get through. They can flatten their skulls and pelvis to squeeze through.
Poison works well but dead mice under the floorboards stink and when it warms up you will have a fly problem too. Snap traps probably your best bet with some chocolate on.
Thing is if they are coming from next door then you will be treating the symptom not the cause and mice breed like er... rabbits so it will be a continuous issue until either your entire house is totally mouse proof, (Do you have the victorian iron airbricks?) or next door is treated for the infestation.
I would be tempted to ring the council as an environmental health issue.

What are the council going to do? Get permission to enter the next door property and poison the mice, I presume? One of the blokes that works for me accidentally got into the next door property a few months ago and inadvertently left numerous open trays of poison. It worked for a while.Poison works well but dead mice under the floorboards stink and when it warms up you will have a fly problem too. Snap traps probably your best bet with some chocolate on.

We have to be careful with the council, because the public health department never miss an opportunity to interfere with things, whether or not it is any of their business. Our properties are fully legal, but that does not stop them trying to drum up a bit of business, seemingly to justify their existence.
Though if necessary I will call them in.

Well if next door is piled up with rubbish etc then it is causing a potential health problem and the council will clear the property out.

Damn if I had read this earlier I could have sent 20 of the countries best pest controllers to you as there was an AGM in Nottingham, luckily there are 3 members who are Nottingham based.Nottingham.

I wouldn't use council as they can cause more problems than they solve, if you want s proper pro then pm me your details and I'll pass on
