How do I stop the buggers from growing. No matter where I store them; Garage, Kitchen, Fruit bowl they will start sprouting before ive eaten them.

Also its ok to chop off the shoots and eat them isn't it?

Have you tried keeping them in a hessian sack? It's the light that makes them sprout.

It's very easy, you just need to buy spuds from somewhere that isn't selling ste taters.

A sack from my local Irish shop will last ok for three months in my shed. some from a supermarket will last about a week.

Yes, just don't eat the green bits - alkaloid called solanin and all that. 'Solanum' etc.

Mine sprout eventually even in a dark cupboard - try a fridge as this will also make it think it's winter.

Paper or hessian sack, ideally outside in a cool, but frostproof shed, avoiding direct sunlight. Bag should last a good few months without sprouting. If it gets frosty, cover the bag over for extra protection.

Ignore supermarket spuds!

Get a bag - big or small - dark or thick to keep the light out and leave some dirt on them. Plenty.

Should last ages!

And keep in the garage with the P&J in this weather as long as you dont have issues with creepy or small animals, foxes, badgers the like smile

Good greengrocer will do a large sack/bag for about the price of 2 small 2.5Kg bags from supermarket - even if you compost a 1/3rd of them, bargain...
