NEW SLK GEARBOX PROBS??
Discussion
Mrs Melv has gear selection probs on new 60 reg 300SLK
-run in with just over 1500miles now -from neutral to drive or reverse there is often a lag, to the point where I managed to floor the throttle the other day manouvreing on the drive before any power went thru!
And she also complained car does not feel as quick and responsive as her previous 230SLK Kompressor
Merc dealer says that by going into N while stationary she is 'confusing the engine' (sic) and that a lot of new owners wish they'd kept their old cars!!! What an enditement!! She was almost ready to throw it back to them as 'not of merchantable quality'!!!
However, with a small bit of internet research there does appear to be a known lag problem with the 7G box...
Then I get a phone call from her after the car had been to the dealer who said they done and could do nothing about it to say that the car felt better and more responsive -a quick test drive this morning confirmed that, but still the N to D or R lag. And it now 'creeps' in D whereas before it needed a bit of throttle to move it from stationary -more like an auto should -WTF??
Have they done something they are not admitting to or have they done something by plugging in a diagnostic and not even realised??
Any ideas and confirmation of known probs welcome
Shame, otherwise a solid car and a pleasant drive

Sounds like they might have topped up the transmission oil, low oil pressure will cause lag and shift problems as there isn't enough fluid in the system! The 7-G also has many modifications from when it was launched, majority of which were cured by software updates....either way the dealers will usually not admit to any manufacturer or dealer error as this affects the customer satisfaction index....we do alot of software updates and oil level checks! They are generally quite reliable, so drive in confidence as you would be covered under the mb breakdown should a further problem arise!
