i've now got myself a nice little silver 5. its currently running on 14s with 185 tyres and i fancy buying some new larger alloys and tyres, any suggestions ?

seen some nice 15s in halfords and at Rochford tyres near me.

what sizes can i go up to without body mods or buggering up the speedo etc

thanks

15's on a 195/50R15 will be fine. better choice of tyres too.

That size and I like the OZ Superturismo. Not cheap though...

Another vote for Rota RBs. Gunmetal with a polished rim. You know it makes sense.

Halfords wheels will be heavy as will the replicas that Rochford offer. Maybe pick some OEM ones up off eBay or as suggested some Rotas?

I need 4 new tyres on my mk2, to replace some badly distorted fronts, and worn rears wink

Any recommendations for a 195/50/R15 tyre? Have been looking at Toyo T1Rs, as they look like a good compromise between performance and value? I have found a set of 4 for £163 delivered.

T1Rs are generally well regarded on MX5s - not so flash on heavy cars due to soft/weak sidewalls but that doesn't seem to be an issue for MX5s.

Depends on what you want new alloys for and how much you want to spend.

If just for looks, then some halfords jobbies will be fine.

If you want some light ones then you may have to go elsewhere... That said halfords do the team dynamics pro race 1.2s.

I've got some oem enkei 15"s for sale soon, that I've taken off my car and replaced for some pro race ones I picked up on eBay for ~£200 with new Tyres (£100 for my old ones, with proxies on).

Depending on where you are in the country, I may be interested in your old ones. smile

Camskill £33.95 inc.VAT x 4 = £135.80 (+ local fitting) wink

I'm sure they'd look better than my battered 323 turbo ones smile Unfortunately though Kent is a good few hours away from me frown cheers anyway!

Ah ha, okay. I thought they might be but couldn't find a decent enough pic to compare the two.

I might be interested in those but not immediately (got a set of 14s I'd need to get rid of first!).

I took off some nasty 17s off my mk1 today and put on some team dynamics pro race 2s with ventus v12 evos which are the standard race tyre and wheel for the mx5 championship. The difference is staggering!!! steering response, feel and tramlining are all so much better! But they are very light wheels.
