Talking about the Daytona 500 , see if you can spot the mistake.....

Daytona got resurfaced after the farce of last year. Big deal, they basically ripped the whole thing up and relaid it. Its now uber smooth, during the Rolex 24hr race it was said that they were breaking at 100 feet, instead of 100 yards.During practice and warm up events it was found that NASCARs could "push", basically two cars run together, nose to tail. The front car punches a hole in the air, the second one doesn't have that disadvantage so uses their extra speed to shove the car in front. Previously it wasn't possible to do this at Daytona because of the bumps.
All good, except they were running over 200mph doing this - I think the highest was nearly 215mph. NASCAR got a bit scared, implemented smaller restrictor plates and limited the cooling apertures on the front of the car (was 2.5"x20", now 3"x20" for todays race).
The cooling becomes a problem as the second car basically gets no air to cool it and overheats - in the duels we saw cars swapping positions (pusher becomes the pushee) about every 4-5 laps to let the pusher engine cool.
Its gonna be a very different 500.

Not a massive, horrendous or particularly significant mistake though, is it? Not one that warrants a thread title making a general statement about the intelligence of an entire nation, I wouldn't have thought. Yes, seriously, the Americans you may have met/heard are the ones who are at the top end of the scale.
As for TG, yes, I watch it, I don't think it makes me a bad person, and the 'Adventure' set in the Deep South was not that untrue about the attitude to strangers and firearms.

I've been as far south as somewhere in Shenandoah national park, so not that far.
There are undereducated parts of Britain too.
Your thread title wasn't "Good ol' some particular underpiveledged folk in specific parts of the deep south of the US", was it?
The assertion that that driver is particularly dumb himself or that an averagely intelligent person from the US is representative of " the top end if the scale" is a bit silly really.

It's just a really tiresome bandwagon cliche that I don't think was worth a mention in the first place and was presented in an ignorant and unfair manner to raise a laugh. Which it didn't get.
I don't think it's representative of the attitudes in the General Motorsport forum either.
