ticki tick ticking........

Hi All

Am just about to make the journey back from Verona to UK in the Cerbera (new job back in UK) and took the car out for a quick run today to make sure all is well

Noticed a tick tick sound which increases with speed and disappears when braking. Appears to be brake related. I seem to remember someone having a similar thing and it was the anti brake queal thingymebob had come undone??

a) do you think it is this ? The ticking continues constantly (seems to be rear) and increases in speed with the car - disappears on any brake application. Def. not engine relaed

b) is it ok to drive the car like this? Will get it fixed back in UK. Braking itself is fine

If it's from the rear brakes it will most likely be the rear pads moving. Most Cerbera's do it but you can stop it or ease it by either a smear of copper grease on the back of the pads or a smear of silicone sealant on the back of the pads. If it is the pads it's nothing to worry about and if you touch the brakes lightly and it goes then I would say it is this that's the problem.

Hi, thanks for your response - yes a very light tab of the brakes and it disappears....

So its normal? Do the pads risk falling out? Apologies for the stupid questions!!

You mean some sealer or copper grease between the caliper and the pad?

I had this the other day, took the rear pads out and although there was some copper grease on them I cleaned it off and put some sealant on the back and the noise has stopped.

The pads will not fall out, you are ok there.

Hi I have had similar, it was caused by corrosion rust on the outer edge of the disc rubbing the bottom of the caliber it got worse as the brakes got hotter due to expansion, easy to fix and not dangerous but very annoying

this also is a sign they could be cracked - not warped ;-)

i've had two sets on the rears, once off you can see why they make the tick sound you describe.

has anyone found an upgrade to the rears as i've upgraded the fronts.ssssss
