Reversing light problem

Hi, Please can anyone shed some light on this one?

My reversing light on my 99 4ltr is intermittent. I have checked the fitting with a test meter, every time the voltage is ok, but of course there is no load whilst on the testmeter. I have changed the bulb with no success, consulted the bible which refers to the switch in the gear box but the voltage is always there when I measure it........
Could it be a bad earth within the screw fitting ? to replace it looks like either a drilling out of rivets which hold a rubber boot in place by sandwiching it between a circular plate and the fitting or is there an easier way (if it is the fitting)? Thanks folks, any help appreciated

Im not sure, but if it's the same as every other reversing light switch, then it will be live when the ignition's on. It switches on the earth. IIRC these switches are tempremental SOBs and the easiest thing is a replacement switch. Check the TVRCC South Wales website for a list of parts that fit.

When mine went it was the switch on the brake pedal. A new one was under 4 quid, fitted in under 5 minuted. Sorted. Get hold of a new one and try it out. Mine seemed fine with the multi-meter but once I had it off it had a hairline crack in it which opened whenever you pressed the brake and prevented the switch from working properly.

Apparently it's fairly common. Hope it helps,

Thanks folks, I removed the fitting and swapped it for the fog light and still the same. I rang the dealers (HHC Leeds) who are alway's very helpfull and they suggested checking the connection block inside the nearside door pillar, sounds like a high resistance joint.
I will keep you posted on my findings.

Check the connections to the light unit. We had some problems with the Griff and it just needed cleaning up (brightening up the metal) and put on a dab of vaseline/copperslip or similar to slow the corrosion.
All is OK now.

Hi everyone,

Spot on with the connector, my friend fixed it after closing the contacts a little more. Something for Chimaera / Griffith owners to note. This was the largest block out of the 4 behind the passenger door post.
