Does anyone know what this is supposed to be for? I see it a lot in Leeds, although not so much now as i've moved out of the city centre.

I've heard it's supposed to signify support for al-Qaeda? I've also heard link to drugs?

Anyone know for sure what it means?

It's to signify the driver is Muslim. Relates to the black flag of Islam, so I heard, could well be miles off.

OK, I have two thoughts: Neither are so sinster as has been mentioned so far.

You will see some muslims wearing black wristbands to protect them from 'Nazzer' or evil, bad luck, other peoples' jeleousy etc.. So I would think that many of these may also would do the same for their cars, particularly as they are a working tool. Protecting the car, keeps the driver and his family safe from bad luck and keeps him on the road and earning....

Another thought is that it could be to denote them as a Shi'ite Muslim. I have seen Shi'ite Muslims with some piece of black on their cars. I would think this is the most likely reason.
