i would guess £4,000 min for average s2 ?
and average s3 at £5,000 , but its all on condition and year , buy cheap means you will have to
spend money on putting it right £ ????? i've seen the £3,000 cars ,high mileage possibly require new hood new interior respray the list goes on
keep looking for the car you can afford one will turn up all depends on the condition your looking for

Maybe I should have posted this on non S owners forums and got better pricesand average s3 at £5,000 , but its all on condition and year , buy cheap means you will have to

Indeed. Just get a good one and you'll be happy. An 'average' car nowadays will probably need a bit of chassis work, have higher miles, need a bit of cosmetic attention, or have some electrical gremlins. All IMHO. You get what you pay for! bought a S3 on ebay last year( without going to look at it ) bloody risky but got it for £3500. Best thing I have bought in my life, but have had loads of work to do on it. New battery, new header tank, old one was split. Thermostat stuck in the closed position, windows hardly worked, and tappets that sounded like a hammer gun, and not to forget the the rusty brake servo. Lucky I have the workshop and knowledge to do it myself, or it would have cost a small fortune. Mine had done 107,000 and had full history up to the last owner at 96k. Dont be put off by reasonably high milage as it means it has been used. The worst thing you can do to any sort of machinery is to let it stand unused, & gathering rust

...I thought S's were between 100k and 250k......after all they are more exclusive than Ferrari's, better sounding than Porkers, stylish British Sports car design, and all owned by celebs (ie we are all are superstars)...
If you can buy a car cheap then buy it now.
But, (a) there are never many around for sale and (b) owners dont usually want to part with theirs unless they need space or quick cash
The prices can only go one way over the next 12 months and thats up !
Top tip spend around 4k and have a reserve of 3k

Seriously though, I know what you are saying. But spend 7k on a chim and might still need a reserve of 2/3k
So then you need 10k to be safe.
