On board with Brundle in Monaco (89) in his Brabham in P3
Discussion
Some good older F1 footage here with quite a bit of on board with Brundle at Monte Carlo in 1989.
Seen running a very respectable P3 behind Senna and Prost in their McLarens, and he is in a Brabham.
Qualified the car 4th, ran in P3 for much of the race finnished 6th in the end.
Its good to see some old stuff like this, manual gearchanges etc. Watching this I can see how it gives him that drivers insight in the commentary box now. Anyone running in P3 in Monaco is a top level driver.

Brundle was on course to cause an upset at that race.
After qualifying the team replaced everyting on the car. Absolutely everything in order to give him the best chance.
Unfortunately, they replaced the Varley battery.
There are two types of Varley Battery: good ones and dud ones. Sadly they took out an old good one and replaced it with a new dud one.
Brundle had to come into the pits to have a new battery put in, this cost him a certain 3rd place, if not better...

Thanks for posting this (and thanks to whoever put it on youtube), bookmarked for extended viewing later.
As well as the vintage Hunt there's some classic Murray "...Brundle, who's got Prost in 2nd ahead of him, in the Brabham, in 3rd, and he is 7 seconds behindProst er, Mansell who is in 3rd place. So Martin Brundle, in 4th position..."
Made me think of the Spanish Inquistion: fear.... and surprise - our two main weapons are...

Martin Brundle is easily the best F1 driver not to have won a Grand Prix I reckon. Currently reading "Working the Wheel" which was written by him, such good insight into all the F1 circuits. Top bloke.
Now there's a statement!Personally, I disagree.
My vote goes to Chris Amon. I recommend "Forza Amon" by Eoin Young.
Much as I like Brundle, and the fantastic insight into the sport he's provided us with over the years, as a driver I'd place Warwick miles ahead of him personally, and that's just considering the Brits of the same era!
ETA: Fab vid - in the space of the first couple of minutes I'm transported back to the time - classic Murray & James commentary and Arnoux holding the pack up in his trademark style!!

Agree about Amon but in the last 20-30 years it would have to be Brundle.
Maybe. Brundle was certainly mighty on his day, but he was never regarded as the best of the best.Amon was. In 1968, Jenks said that 1 of 4 drivers would be WDC. Clark, Hill, Amon and Stewart.
In 1969 his list was Stewart, Amon and Ickx
In 1970 his list was Stewart, Amon and Rindt.
I hate to say it, but in F1, no-one would have said "Senna, Prost, Mansell, Piquet and Brundle."
Amon was truely up there with the greats. He just had incredibly bad luck.
