This is something which needs doing soon, at the moment its white painted render. However its looking grubby.

Is it worth getting someone in to do it, or shall i get some lads over and get the ladders out.

Companies are saying £750-1000 to paint the whole house.

Depends if you want it done properly or mates trying to do it and not having any comeback if it all goes wrong. A proper decorating firm will do the correct preparation and finish. If there is a problem you can get them back to correct it. Mates will do their best but who is going to get the paint off your windows, tarmac or your car. Its amazing how far paint will travel in a slight breeze etc. Insufficiant preparation will see it peeling off in a short while and I imagine that your house is your biggest investment but people hate to spend serious money on it.

Why do you assume the OP wouldn't prepare properly?

The only time I had a 'professional' decorator do my house it was a total abortion by a complete cowboy.
My (then) 5 yr old kid could have done a better job.

Well all I can say is choose your decorator more carefully. I care about the work I do and would hate to get a bad name for my work as most of it comes from recommendation. I give what I think is a honest price when asked and explain what I will do for the price but some people expect me to work for peanuts and I will not do that. It makes me smile sometimes when I go to do an estimate and you see flash cars, horses, swimming pools etc but paint peeling off windows and doors rotting fascia and soffitts but they expect to get it done for theprice of a big service on the Rangr Rover or Porsche.

Was quoted between £1000 and £1600 to paint my house, no widows/doors or facias to paint as they are UPVC.
So I spent £120 on paint and materials and did it myself over a couple of days job done. I hate shelling out money for jobs that I can do just as good myself.
Just take your time over a couple of days or weekends and have some extra wonga in your pocket.

Do it yourself. It's not exactly a skilled job. Use a stiff/wire brush over the surface to remove all loose flakings/blisters. Seal any areas that have lost the paint down to the render then wash down afterwards (which most "professionals" never bother to do) followed by two coats of exterior paint.

Cheers for the help.

Im leaning towards getting my old man over and doing it ourselves. I can get the bits for £100-200 and spend a nice weekend on the ladders.

Id prepare it properly of course, starting with a good ol' powerwasher blast etc.

Only concern is the gable end, coming off the gable end (Full width) i have another room (Cinema!) and a lean to walkway to this next room. However i wouldnt want to put my weight on either roof!!!

Dont really want to fork out for Scaffolding etc.

Would a "Professional" exterior house painter be able to do this with a sprayer with a long lance?
