SD1 gearbox wanted for 280i to a v8 conversion
Discussion
Can't see any insurmountable problems, except an early 280 may have too narrow an engine bay, and you may have to use the exhaust manis as per the earliest 350i (Land Rover ?), plus find a V8 Wedge propshaft, speedo drive and radiator.
Also upgrade front brakes to 390 spec (Granada MK2 Estate ventilated with matching calipers).
TVRLeigh has put a V8 into his early 280, but has brought the exhaust manifolds forward, as in the S-series.
Anyway, he'll be able to advise better than me.

Hi mate..
The only thing i can say is that ive been harping on about doing the same with mine for months but most of the time all i hear is "sell it and buy a V8"..Which makes more sense cos im sure it will cost you more money than simply buying one to start with..After all i have spent on mine i could of bought numerous V8s for sale...Good luck..Zig

I'm sure I've seen a pic (in the Parts Manual perhaps?) of an early 350 setup where the manifolds exit forward; maybe they just swapped them right to left?
I'm using Griff Headers that come forward over the chassis, as I have a S1 chassis, and did not want to chop it.I did though have to remove the bid of body that sits on that part of the chassis.
As said it is possible, but will be expensive, and take a lot of time, took me over a year, so unless you have a very special reason to do it, it's not worth it, just sell and get buy a V8 wedge.
See my thread here, covers a lot of the conversion.
