Advice - Ultima is in my shortlist for my next car.

Hi all,
After spending a long time over the weekend reading through the forums on the back on reading other build threads. The Ultima is firmly on my shortlist of cars.
I have looked at a number of different build diaries so far, and can see that the cost can vary from £30k (on a tight budget) upwards of £50k.
I am not in a fortunate position to buy all the parts on 1 go and store until they are needed, so I will be looking to buy them in staged Kit form.
Is buying in kit form over a period of 18 months going to give me any problems with parts compaability if they improve/change the design a little? Also with Kit car companies i am also a little worried of having a half complete car and the supplying comapny going bust. Ultima seem to be more stable than others so the risk of that happening should be minimal.
My last question, is it realistic for an ultima to built in this way over a 18-24 months..

Building the car over a period of time isn't uncommon. Plenty of builders have taken 5 years or more as funds/time permits. I wouldn't worry about parts being re-developed in this period either, there are no plans to dramatically change anything that I'm aware of (and the design hasn't changed fundamentally for many, many years now - if it ain't broke etc.). Ultima are a stable company and continue to do what they've always done. Thankfully they've never fallen into the trap of trying to expand beyond market demand which has proved to be a prudent approach IMHO.After spending a long time over the weekend reading through the forums on the back on reading other build threads. The factory will be able to advise you on what stages to buy to get you going. What I will say though it that you're better off ticking as many boxes (options) as you can. No only will it make the car more rewarding to build, it will help the value when you come to sell it. The AP brake kit and Intrax dampers for example, whilst options, are really considered by most potential buyers to be 'must haves'.

The main thing is to build the car that you want. It's a fantastic experience and one I'd thoroughly recommend.
Look around on the recent threads and posts, as some have taken or are taking years to finish their builds. I would not be too worried about Ultima going broke, but that is just my opinion. They have a great product and give excellent support. Go ahead and take a visit to the Factory and get a test (fright) drive with Ted or Richard

I have currently saved up for a 3rd Car (Toy) for myself, but have looked at the Westfield Great car, but is not for me. I have considered things like the Audi S4, and even buying another Impreza again witht he funds i have now. But I just want something a bit different, and althought here are some good cars out there i just cannot find one that gives me that sense of occasion everytime you drive it.

Seven style cars are great fun - but the Ultima is in a different league from both a performance and 'occasion' perspective I have currently saved up for a 3rd Car (Toy) for myself, but have looked at the Westfield Great car, but is not for me. Thanks. My shortlist of Kit Cars went from the Murtaya to the Westie and finaly the ultima.
The westie while quick was great to drive but I did not the nature of the rev the crap out of it all the time. I know the ethos is a small capacity high rev engine in a light car is a good mix. But is just not one for me.
Then i moved onto the Subaru Engined Murtaya. A lot quicker around the track compared to the Westie, easy to tune and cheap to run. But i had the sense that i have already been there and done that. I have owned a tuned Impreza before and they are a performance bargain, but i just want something v8 powered.

As for the stages to get, Stig is definately right with what he's saying about certain options and it's also quite handy to have as many parts on hand as you can but not essential as many threads on here show. I'm sure the factory will be only to pleased to advise you on how/what order to do things in.

Couldn't agree more.. When I built mine I didn't have all the finances required and so bought what I could when I could - left me plenty of time to go mental on the detailing...The factory will be able to advise you on what stages to buy to get you going.
