Hi there,Im just entering the third week of Ford mondeo ownership after having run a bmw for years(sick to death of silly running costs also not that reliable).Ive got to say Im very impressed with my 2005 1.8lx.The only niggle is Im getting a humming sound but only on certain sorts of road surfaces which rules out wheel bearing issues. But Ive noticed it has crappy tyres all round, they all look fairly new but are a cheap crappy tyre.Could this be the cause of the humming sound and if so what tyres would you recommend?(they are just the steel wheels with wheel trims).

I have the same model - 1.8LX (on a 54-plate). I was running Bridgestone Turanza ER300 all round, but have recently changed the front tyres to Uniroyal RainExpert. They're very quiet - only noise heard now is the rear Bridgestones. Can throughly recommend the Uniroyals, they grip very well in all conditions, easily as good as the Bridgestones.

My front wheel bearings were goosed, along with the two outer CV joints - just had them replaced at 64,000.

When I bought mine, it had Hankooks on - which although they were fine performance wise, they were noisy at motorway speeds.

Current Yokos are very quiet. smile

Hankook Ventus Prime were factory fit on mine. Reasonable tyre, but don't last very long for their average grip.
