Whats it worth ?
Discussion
Saw this car for sale recently and believe me it is amazing. Problem is, whats it worth. It's one of these cars that doesn't have a book price but obviously it has a value (being sold by a trader) So is it worth close to £20k or £30k ? I know someone will say its worth whatever you are prepared to pay for it but thats not an answer. Whats the general thought guys ? this type of thing varies so much in price ! Description is roughly:
1967 registered DAX COBRA with FORD 289ci V8
original Ford V8 289 4.7 litre and 4 speed top loader manual box Holley 4 barrel carburettor and Limited slip diff. Built in 1985 and is based on the desirable MKIII and totally magnificent.

So what is in there from the doner car? I assumed a Dax replica had a proper chassis of it's own rather than Cortina/Jag bits or whatever the cheaper ones use.
Engine and box ? not sure but its a beauty. I know the asking price and I think it's good but wondering if its worth more not knowing much about them.Edited by RichB on Monday 21st February 18:44
Original period engines(Ford 289 and 427) and trying to keep the rest of the car as authentic as possible tends to command a premium over similar Cobra replicas.
The early Daxs had a ladder frame chassis rather than the twin tube of the original and the dash layout was not correct. The one in your photo has immitation pin drive wheels and a double roll bar which would also mark it down a bit in the "authentic" department.
It does have a period registration and it looks in very good condition, which along with a period engine would help to keep its value up. I would get the casting numbers off the engine block and heads to authenticate the age and type of engine just to be sure.
If the engine is correct then around £25k is a good place to start.

They are asking £22k which I think is pretty good.
Well at £22k (you'll get it for £20k'ish) you'll have a lot of fun and always be able to sell it on for the same amount. Go for it. Mind you as I say, I can see the appeal but you could get a spot-on Griff 500 for that money
How about some authentic Shelby for a little more?

I know this cross references with the AC thread in General Gassing, but so what.
