Remember many of these will have left the factory as kits, so the guages would be in the owner's preference order!

My Vixen S3 goes the same way as PJP, Left to right, amp - water - oil - fuel.
Warning lights may be a different matter!

Thats an intetesting point David. I had always thought that cars sold as "kits" to avoid sales tax, were essentially complete except for some minor assembly, such as fitting the engine and a few bits of wiring. A weekends work was all that was needed. What was TVR's approach?

I think from failing memory that Hot Car magazine built a TVR 2500 in a weekend to prove it could be done. I may have the wrong magazine though. I suspect that the level of kit you got depended on how many scheckles you had in your pockets when you turned up to the factory gate!

The instruments were always fitted in the order PJP described. I bought a new one and the instruments were in that order, I built several kits for people and they were all the same and I have the most original unmolested Vixen in the garage and thats the same. The owners handbook also shows them in that order.

Contrary to what David says the cars were not supplied as kits in the incomplete state he eludes to. They came from the factory as completely assembled as was legal to avoid purchese tax an contrary to popular belief many Vixen S2,s and Tuscan V6,s were factory built but all Vixen S3,s were kits.. The body was complete, painted, trimmed, wired and with all glass fitted, usually sitting on the chassis. The engine and gearbox were complete, all four corners of the suspension were assembled and fitted to rear uprights, front vertical links etc. differential and drivshafts were seperate as was the exhaust system.Everything was brand new. Strangely Lotus and Marcos, and a few other minor marques were offered in the same form but few people ever refer to Lotus or Marcos as kit cars. The Vixen S3 was £1310 new.

Thanks for the update Steve, at least I was right on the kit bit, I didn't know how many bits they came in though, was there a manual as I've never seen one.

As custodian of the TVRCC archives for a time I,m surprised you didn,t know the details of the kits or of the existance of the Owners handbook, the TVRCC used to offer quite poor copies of the original at one time

fascinating, thanks Steve and Moluag. So a little more to do than I thought, but not much more.
Fascinating to see the documentation. And TYPED it always shocks me a little bit to see stuff typewritten these days! Damn, really am getting old!

That's not an original Tuscan dash !!! At least it's different to mine nerd! I have (the dreaded) AC ancilliary guages and no hazard warning system but a manually switched reversing light. But the gauges are in the same order smile.

It certainly is original, but it was the last Tuscan V6 produced in November 1971, so it could be different to yours.
