Bit of E36 Coupe help please? the window thinks the door is open and is in the dropped position to break the seal. The small microswitch on the door lock seems to have stopped having an influence whether pushed in or poking out. Presumably there are wires through the door jamb behind this lock? Anybody any experience of this before I break something...?
Thanks smile

does it still go up and down when you lock or unlock? or is it just permanantly stuck in the 'drop' position?

i have, kinda the same issue with my passneger side, well, sometimes it doesn't drop, then once the door's been left open it goes up and down by itself like crazy.

i was told by c3bmw to swap the console window switches with eachother and see if the problem swaps door sides. haven't tried yet, though it sounds unlikely to solve the issue?!

Hi,
No mine was staying down all the time. At first though it went up and down at random.
I have (fingers crossed) fixed it.
I took off the locking/striking plate with the microswitch. Didn't lose the threaded plate it bolts too inside the bodywork. Then disconnected and reconnected the wire to the switch. And that was it. It now goes down when the door is opened and up when it is closed.

I would mark where your locking plate is on the door jamb for repositioning and be very careful not to lose the threaded plate it bolts to. Re-aligning is a bit fiddly. I put a small screwdriver through the hole in the locking plate, through the bodywork and into the threaded plate.

If you do it on your own in the dark I recommend taping a torch to your knee... smile
