GT 5 Saved to hard drive.

Hi all, it's my first time postining in here and I already need help.

My PS3 is only 2 months old and the disk drive has gone down.

Argos are happy to exchange the console however all of my game progress on GT5 is saved to the hard drive and when I have tried to save it to a USB stick it is blocked.

I have spoken to Playstation support and from what I can gather the only way that I may be able to save my game progress is to connect my PS3 to another and transfer the information across, although even they say that this is not guaranteed to work.

Does any one know of another way?

My other games e.g Need for Speed and Colin McRae save fine but apparantly a few games have this block on them.

I am not computer literate in the slightest so if anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated as even though I am not the worlds greatest gamer I play every section until I am either first or get gold before I move on. (This took 8 hours on one piece of cornering at the Nurburgring to get gold! So I don't want to have to do all of this again).

What do you mean the disk drive has gone down? If it actually has, then you're screwed without a backup having being created before it failed.

It's the Blue Ray/'Bit that you insert the game into part' that isn't working.

odd but you should be able to back up save data onto a usb stick but if its blocked unless argos will let you do this before the swap i guess you are screwed

One option would be to remove the HDD, connect it to a PC (using an external USB case or something to make life easy) and transfer all the files off it.

Reinstall your games to the new PS3 then pull the HDD out. Spend some time seeing which are the save game files, it might be obvious, it might not, and transfer these game files back to the new PS3 HDD before putting it back in the console.

Is your GT5 up to date? IIRC copying to USB was enabled in 1.03 update.

Op, please explain exactly what you have tried so far as it's not very clear. So the Blu-Ray drive is broken, so you can't launch the game at all? You say the USB is 'blocked', what do you mean? If you plug in a USB stick, go to your Save Game Data on the XMB you should be able to press triangle and 'copy' the save game.

This won't work as the PS3 drive is encrypted. It can only be read by the PS3 it came from, so you wouldn't be able to stick it into another PS3 either.

plug in a usb HDD, go to

[Settings]>[System Settings]>[Backup Utility]>Back Up,

and follow the on screen promts, when you get the new system do the same, but restore. Did this when I put a 300gb hdd in on of mine. might take a while but its the best way.

Thanks to those that replied, but the cause of the need to save GT5 has now been resolved. When we removed the hard drive a 2 pence piece also came out! So we'll thank my 2 1/2 year old son for that.
On putting the hard drive back in everything now works as it should (i.e. the CD part).

It has been suggested by a few including someone from Sony that a download is available for GT5 and this would allow the saving of the game to a USB stick.

Hopefully I won't have to find out but just in case, as we speak I have connected my PS3 to the internet for the first time and am downloading the latest updates.
