Is it in both eyes? If so then its probably not irritant conjunctivitis. It could be allergic conjunctivitis or infective. If its infective it should heal by itself in 1 - 2 weeks. Do you wear contact lenses at any time? If so then that could be the cause if its allergic conjunctivitis. If it continues ask your doctor to find you an appointment with an ophthalmologist.
If it's both eyes make sure you have two tubes of ointment, otherwise you will be continually reinfecting yourself. Make sure you are very strict in handwashing.
Sometimes you need a different antibiotic, which one are you using? Sometimes conjunctivitis is viral and no matter what antibiotic you use it'll take about 6 week to clear.

No, you need to stop searching symptoms of ailments on the internet!I sometimes get conjuctivitis, I've always used Chloramphenicol, which is now available over the counter at the chemist, and it's been gone in a few days.

You could get it from the Herpes virus (if viral), but it's Herpes as in cold sores, rather than TV off and a stern chat Herpes.
Another one was from acanthamoeba.
I'd head down to an eye hospital, I had something, possibly viral which disfigured my cornea for a while, but luckily it healed and didn't scar.
That was about 6 months of a red eye and hiding from bright lights.

First, do NOT touch your eyes without washing your hands with antibacterial soap immediately. Touch nothing in the house until you have done so.
Pillowcases and sheets, if they touch your face, should be changed and washed every night. Use hot water to do so, not cold.
Use the prescription until it runs out, not only until symptoms are over.
Being outrageously sanitary is the only cure, we're talking operating room levels of sanitariness.
