Just a bit of experience asked really.
Have managed to sell my car, MOT 'til august, tax runs out end of feb. But i'm awaiting a replacement logbook as mine got lost. I'm delivering the car to the new owner tomorrow. And also SORNing it tomorrow. So it is classed as off the road while he does the necessary repair work on the vehicle. Once the replacement logbook is with me, i'll pass it on to him which he will then fill in and send off so the vehicle is his. But from what i've gathered on Direct.gov.uk he will have to sorn the car again once the logbook is in his name?? This is what confuses me. What is the right way to do this without either of us being fined for the car not being taxed. Thanks guys, sorry if it's a bit long winded or the 'wrong' way to do it, but this is how it is haha

Only registered keeper can declare SORN.

SORN does not pass on with change of registered keeper. It is a requisite for the new keeper to either tax or SORN.

I picked up a form yesterday V890 which enables anyone to declare sorn on any vehicle, as far as i'm aware.

Why bothering asking if you don't want to listen or you're incapable of interpreting the regulations correctly.

I am buying a vehicle and the previous keeper has already declared SORN. Do I have to do anything?

A SORN is not transferable from one keeper to another so you must make a SORN or tax the vehicle if you going to use or keep the vehicle on the public road.

Was there really any need for a response like that? This 'predicament' has really confused me and I thought PH would be an appropriate place to ask, all I stated is what I believe.. But I do understand a bit better now.

Your first reply wasn't exactly full of gratitude was it, and still you state you're confused but understand it a bit better now. What's to confuse? I answered your question as simply put as it can be. There is no confusion, but your doubt tells me you're not listening. So why ask the PH community if you're going to doubt or not listen to said community.
