I've donned my flamesuit for this.
First off I'll say I am not asking about the legalities of these kits as the subject has been discussed many times before.
This is more a technical question to do with the hardware used.

I have wanted to upgrade my headlamps for a while and have been offered a kit out a friends old car before he sells it.

However the kit is for H4 bulbs whereas my car uses H7's.
Would I be able to convert the kit to H7's???
I've seen on Ebay that you can buy H7 bulb holders....would it be as simple as that??

Thanks

No - H4s have all sorts of extra wiring to make them dip. H7s are much easier. Buy a complete H7 kit - they're only about £40 for a good one.

Ive been selling hid kits for 5 years odd.

Yes you can. Simply buy some h7 bulbs

Pref h7r if your car doesn't have projectors a the R bulb gives off less glare than normal h7 bulbs.

There will be a loom with the h4 kit
Simply bin it or do what you like.

The ballasts will plug into bulbs and then your cars wiring will go directly into the ballast. Simple

And you need bulbs not bulb holders

What car Isit?

£40 for a "good" HID kit?

I don't think so.

You can get H7 based HID bulbs and plug them into the ballasts of your H4 kit.
You might save some money, but TBH, I would just buy a new H7 or H7R kit and be done with it.
The ballasts on many modern kits are much smaller too.

Indeed, but it will do the same job. A Breitling tells the time and so does a Timex. In this case a Timex will do a good job.

When the exchange rate was good i was buying HID kits for £15 a piece and importing them in bulk so £40 is a good price. There is no difference in the quality unless you pay hundreds of ££
