Interesting France town help
Discussion
Hi,
off to France again in the summer (Gïte in the Dordogne) with mrsthewife and two not yet teenage kids (12 & 8).
As we live in the northern tundra of Teesside, it's a bit of a trek, so we normally stop off somewhere 150km or so from Calais overnight (often Rouen).
Want to try something different this year and maybe stop in a nice hotel for a couple of days on the way instead. As I'm not very familiar with bits of Northern France I'm currently at a loss as to where to actually do this !
Any ideas? Somewhere, with something of family interest, about 150-200km south /south west of Calais (so I can avoid Paris) . . .
(Did think about Le Mans, but is there much there other than in June??)

I normally decide roughly where I need to stop over then look at the Logis de France website. 2 * can be basic and not all have restaurants but sticking to 3* I have found some superb hotels and had some fine meals. I think that the restaurants have to offer a menu "terroir" of local produce, not had a bad one yet.

L'Assiette Champenoise in Reims is nice, if that's not too much of a diversion.
Most of the people on Trip Advisor don't seem to think so (never been put off a place as bad as this !)http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g187137-...
