350Z insurance?
Discussion
Hi all
99% decided on picking up a 350Z to go with a plain but necessary (and surprisingly thrashable on Evo's favourite B660!) Zafira.
Looking at different models, I was _very_ surprised at the extra insurance CtM came up with for the roadster vs the coupe - fully 50% above the coupe prices, heck 30% more than a similar cost Boxster!
Is this _really_ right in others' experience or I have I somehow tripped the idiot switch?
Thanks :-)

My roadster renewal cam in in January. Did the rounds of Meercat's Elephnats and so on. Quotes of anything up to £2.5k were made. I negotiated with my current insurer and it came in at under £300 for fully comp and protected NCB. Direct Line by the way. Direct Line may or may not be right for you but do shop around though.

This is due to the roadster being an insurance group higher than the coupé.
Worth it though.
I was expecting it to be more, but a 50% margin over the coupé and however much over a Boxster made my jaw drop!Worth it though.

Still undecided over which. Coupe is definitely better looking with the roof up IMHO, but roof down the roadster is nice. Just to decide if it's enough nicer like that to make it worth the extra purchase and insurance cost.

Just for info,
I've had a couple of quotes for insurance:
2008 GT Roadster 313, £402 - paying now.
2008 GT Coupe 313, £372.
Not sure why you are getting a quote for 50% more.
I found that it was cheaper to ensure the newer 313 07' onwards than the previous models.
Ow, thanks Qube. I was quoted £650 coupe, £1100 roadster, based on 05 cars IIRC. I'm 32, driving since 17, 3 points from '07, forget exact years' NCB but huge, parked in a residents' car park in that known crime hotspot of Bedford. Sounds like I didn't quite get the best deal available, to put it mildly...

One more thing, not sure if you have decided to buy a coupe or a roadster. My biased opinion, as soon as the sun comes out, drop the top and enjoy the burble of the V6 especially with an induction kit fitted.
Well, im finding myself in a similar boat. I was planning on buying an M3, and had several quotes of around the £500 mark, which I thought was very reasonable. Im nearly 40 and have 20 years NCB now, having been built up on hot hatches before I settled for a cheaper to run diesel car over the last few years. Outside of that I have 3 motorbikes incl an R1 on which ive around 12 years NCB or more. So based on that ive loads of experience of using quick and fast vehicles, have stupid amounts of NCB and on paper should be a good risk.
So, I get a quote for a 350z Convertible, through 2 seperate "specialists" who offer "discount" through being a member of enthusiasts forums or clubs and they came in at £1300 and £1400 respectively!!! wtf!!!
The cheapest ive found through shopping around has come in at £750 from Admiral, but even so, thats a lot more than the m3 which is a quicker car, and exactly 10 times the price my R1 cost me this year. lol.

During my teens into early 20's I insured a number of warm hatches through Flux, then switched to a company car for the last 4 years and yesterday back to a 350z. Quotes from Flux for the Zed (54 plate) were over £1200 despite taking into account the PH discount, 4 years NCB and an IAM membership.
Best I got was with Admiral who came through at a very reasonable £650 which reduced to £550 when I added the missus as a named driver.

Im actually with flux atm with my current car and they have come back with £800 for the 350z, although if i add my girlfriend it increases it to £900. Strangely enough, all the other companies reduce the quote by £100 if I add her to the quote rather than increase it.
Admiral and Elephant.co.uk both came back as £750. Even Aviva have quoted me £750. But all the "specialist" companies offering so called discount because your an enthusiast or a member of a club all came in at silly money!!!
That and the 450quid road tax is making this an expensive car, just hope its worth it!
