Has any one driven one yet? Would love some feedback as I haven't tried one out.

My wants are:
Suspension not too hard and low - so it can cope with bumps and occasional rutted tracks. (I don't need 4x4)
Good economy. 10k per year.
Fast.
Low contract hire rate (My own business is paying)
Low company car tax.
Easy on motorways and fun on B roads.
Must be able to carry quite a lot of gear from time to time.

The Fabia VRS Estate seems to tick all of these.

Current contract hire of £189 per month from Skoda direct including maintenance seems really good.

Can any one see a better deal right now for one of these? Any other suggestions?

They are great fun! Had the pleasure of one over the weekend, the DSG is fantastic, the boot is suprising large, the ride is supple for somethign that handles quite well, and the MPG, well i averaged 38mpg, but I do have a heavy foot, and was loving that lil engine! But the other half saw 46 on her run!

Not heavy enough biggrin

I average 31mpg, and have had it as low as 14mpg when hooning.

It drinks oil too, just under a litre per 1000 miles.

Oh, and personally I hate the DSG, but I think many of you know that by now, so I'll turn the record off on that score.

The car's OK, but with hindsight I wouldn't have bought it, I don't like it much really frown

For what it's worth, my fuel consumption is not dissimilar to yours (around 32 average, though most of my trips include at least some motorway and I don't go mad at this time of year, so I've yet to see a trip average lower than about 24). It's not hugely more economical than my old Octavia vRS estate, though, which used to give me about 28mpg on average.

...but your oil consumption seems heavy. Mine has used about a litre in 4,500 miles, which is handy, 'cos it conveniently means it'll take a litre top-up pretty much half way between service intervals.

But not unusual, from various forum accounts.

You're really not enamoured of your new vRS, are you? frown

I must admit, apart from the Curate's Egg of a gearbox and the cheap interior plastics (compared to the Octavia vRS), I'm getting on OK with mine.

It tramlines and torque-steers more than I consider accepable for a modern car and I can't argue with those that say the Clio Sport is more fun to drive (...but then we're banned Renaults on the company fleet because they fall apart and break down too often frown), but it's still quite good fun.

FWIIW, someone with an old TDi Fabia vRS tried to out-drag me overtaking this morning (we both pulled out at the same time, me in front, to overtake a stream of traffic) and fell behind fast it was almost comical, so it does have its benefits over the older model! smile

I can't say I'm noticing much torque steer, but then my old vRS had 310lbft, so I'm finding my new one a touch gutless in the mid range by comparison.

I think a re-mapped old model would give it a run for it's money, they tend to be about 160-170bhp, and then there's the huge torque, if you were caught on the hop, by the time you've got the TSI on song, initially I reckon the old one would be well away, but then caught up and left behind. But yes, it is quite a bit faster than the old model.
