I have a 1990 Mk1. Recently (post-service) it feels like the steering's not a talkative (It's power steering, but even so...) I had a front spring replaced, could the alignment make the steering feel not as good? Or tyre pressures? Or a different suspension set up? Or, or, or...

Thanks,
Dan

yes

Alignment and pressure could both contribute to that.

Have you topped up your powered steering fluid?

Start simple. Make sure the tyre pressures are correct (start with 27psi all around).
After that, get the geo checked. Most places don't charge for a check, they only charge to adjust so there is nothing to lose. I would bet that the geo is well out now though. Where did you get the spring replaced?

Oh, another question... how old is your car?

It's a 99k 1990 I've had for nearly a year. I want a turbo now it's being retired from daily duties. I'm swinging between selling it and buying a Turbo someone's already done and converting this one myself. Either way, I want it to be straight.

If it's a 1990, do you know how old the springs are? I would have thought that just replacing a single front spring would be a bad idea as the others would have sagged a bit in 21 years! For a car that age they really should be replaced in pairs if not the full set.

Good advice there. Sounds like a perfect excuse to upgrade to a set of decent coilovers.
