As the title says really. Is there even a market for it? Due to combining households we have some stuff that is too nice to just give away, but have no room to store. Tried online but no joy - is the local paper worth a go or should we just accept we will get nothing for it?

Furniture is quite a personal thing to buy.

It has to match your room, be a certain style, etc, etc

Depends on what you're flogging.

If it's DFS/Ikea-type stuff freecycle it or, if it's quite new, local-paper it.

If it's quality, well made stuff that's got value, E-Bay it.

IMO

I'd suggest free ads in the local paper first.
Then perhaps listing at the local auction house.

Depends antique stuff always has value, but brown furniture has been depressed of late.

besides local paper, and ebay, there is freecycle and similar which gives away to a good home. Charities sometime run warehouse type places for furniture.

Alternatively you can try the local sale rooms, the auctioneers will have a general household sale.

The other alternative is the house clearance dealers, who often advertise.

But be warned a lot of furniture is hard to give away, some has to have the right labels re fire say sofa's also dealers will always want to pay pennies if at all for stuff.

Yeah its not expensive stuff by a long way, but lots was only bought 6 months ago so seems a shame to get nothing back. Thanks guys, I'll try the local paper and if that fails just grit my teeth and give it to a charity shop.

If you're giving it away, and want to do a good turn, you could do worse than look up your local women's refuge.

These places often look for decent furniture for when they re-house abused women who leave the marital home, literally, with nothing.

I have no affiliation, but have dealt with such refuges before. It makes you feel warmer inside than giving to a charity shop, where I get the nagging doubt that people buy things for profit.

Take a photo of it and put it with a card in the newsagent window or some supermarkets have boards. More likely to sell with there being a picture with the add.
You could show us what you're selling incase anyone is interested! (Although you'll probably be told to put it in the classifieds)smile

Oooh thats a good idea - I collect cosmetics/toiletries for Refuge from friends and at work and send them so they have a bit of something to make them feel nicer. Thanks!

I sold a 24-year-old fridge/freezer on eBay for £40, so I'm sure you can sell some 6-month old furniture there!

Mind you I also sold a second-hand toilet for £50 hehe

As this furniture is only 6 months old, I take it you're moving in with a new beau. Wouldn't it be sensible to put it in storage for say, 6 months until you're sure things work out between you?

Depends what it is. Antiques to Auction, standard furniture to the newsagents window. ( Local is best, especially if large as ebay sales will usually need transport ) If it was hand made, like our stuff, sell it back to the people you bought it for, or ask them to sell it for you

I've always found Gumtree useful for furniture, bought plenty and sold a few bits on it.

The only furniture I've bought new has been a desk and a mattress, the rest has been bargains smile

Local Council does Furniture Recycling .. fussy b8stards as well given that they wanted furniture for 'charity' .. think they sell the stuff on as well. Oops - misread - you want to sell. Doh!
